The Oshawa Historical Society is excited to welcome Dr. Natasha Henry-Dixon for April’s Local History Speaker Series, for her talk, “I Will Use My Freedom Well”: Emancipation Day and the Practice of Black Freedom in Canada. This talk will provide a historical background on Emancipation Day, which is commemorated every year on August 1, to observe the abolition of slavery in British colonies, and will discuss how Black people practiced freedom in Canada.
April’s Local History Speaker Series is taking place Tuesday, April 16 at 6PM. The Speaker Series will be held at the McLaughlin Branch of the Oshawa Public Libraries, in the lower level auditorium, located at 65 Bagot Street, Oshawa.
The Local History Speaker Series is an event presented in partnership between the Oshawa Historical Society and the Oshawa Public Libraries.
