The Ontario 34th Regiment, outside of the Armouries, 1914
From the Oshawa Community Archives Collection
In 1866, while the Province of Canada was facing the threat of the Fenian Raids, nine independent rifle companies amalgamated, and the 34th (Ontario) Battalion of Infantry was formed. The Ontario Regiment is one of the oldest continuously serving regiments in Canada, and this year marks its 150th anniversary, quite the landmark for this organization. On March 15, the Oshawa Historical Society is welcoming the Rod Henderson, author of the forthcoming Fidelis et Paratus: The History of the Ontario Regiment (RCAC), will share highlights from the Regiment’s outstanding history.
The Oshawa Historical Society’s March Speaker Series is taking place Tuesday March 15 at 7PM. The Speaker Series will be held at the McLaughlin Branch of the Oshawa Public Library, located at 65 Bagot Street, Oshawa. Admission to the Oshawa Historical Society Speaker Series is $3 or FREE for members of the Oshawa Historical Society.
