Speaker Series Review – 5th Annual Research Symposium

What a finish to the 2014 Speaker Series!  Thank you to the members in attendance last night, and to everyone who attended throughout the year.  Our Speaker Series continues to grow in popularity, and for that we thank each and every one who attends.

Our Research Symposium highlighted local research.  Patty Davis, owner of Oshawa’s The Costume People, presented on the reproduction of the WWI Nursing Sister’s Uniform.  She outlined what went into the research and recreation, resulting in a beautiful, accurate, and wearable Uniform, which would have been worn by women nursing soldiers on the front lines.

OCM’s own Jennifer Weymark, Archivist, also presented on the history of Guy House marking the official release of the final book of the If This House Could Talk series.  She told the story of the house, from construction to its current use as the administrative centre for the Oshawa Community Museum.    Copies of If This House Could Talk: The Story of Guy House, can be purchased at the Oshawa Museum Shop, and online from Lulu.com.

Once again, thank you for a successful 2014 season, and we are looking forward to what 2015 will bring!
